MASS LOBBY OF PARLIAMENT 17 June 2015

This was the scene, on the embankment opposite the Houses of Parliament, where most London constituents gathered to meet their MPs.

Jeremy Corbyn (Islington North), Keir Starmer (Holborn and St Pancras, below left)and Catherine West (Hornsey and Wood Green, below) all turned out to meet large groups, and affirm their commitment to tackle climate change.

A noticeable local absentee was Mike Freer (Finchley and Golders Green). He did not reply personally to a letter inviting him to meet, but let it be known through his PA that he would be unavailable to meet constituents at the lobby.

London: Managing Drought and Flood

Dr Tim Evans (Chairman, CIWEM Wastewater Management Panel and independent environmental consultant) gave a fascinating talk on the 14th March at the Highgate Society about London’s water as part of a series considering one big question:  how well prepared is London to meet the challenge of climate change? The talk was filmed and is available full-length on YouTube. We also have a 15 minute extracts video. The meeting was sponsored by Transition Highgate, Muswell Hill Sustainability Group and Sustainable Haringey.

The first talk of the year on February 5 attracted a capacity audience: Climate Change and the Media: Realism or Distortion? The issues and the urgent need for better communication. The speakers were Vicky Pope, Senior Climate Scientist, The Met Office, and  Ben Webster, former Environment Editor, The Times. We have an 11 minute video of extracts from Vicky’s talk online now.
